How to Play Instant Bingo
Instant Bingo makes it easy to host and play custom multiplayer bingo games with friends, students, or colleagues — no app, no account, and no setup hassle. This guide walks you through everything you need to know.
For Hosts: Creating a Game
1 Go to the Create Page
Visit instant-bingo.com/create.html or click "Create a Game" on the home page.
2 Enter Your Name
This will be displayed as the "Host" in the game setup dashboard, so players know who organized the game.
3 Add Your Custom Word List
Type in at least 24 unique items (words, phrases, inside jokes, vocabulary terms, etc.). You can add them one at a time by typing and pressing Enter, or use the "Bulk Add" section to paste a list with one item per line.

4 Optional: Customize the Free Space
By default, the center square says "FREE". You can change this to any text you like (e.g., "BINGO!" or your event name).
5 Click "Create Game"
You'll be taken to a Game Setup Dashboard where you'll see:
- Your 6-character game code (e.g.,
A1B2C3) - Buttons to copy the join link or setup link (for co-hosts)
- A live list of players as they join
- The ability to view each player's board (click their name)
6 Share the Game Code or Join Link
Send the 6-character code or join link to your players via Slack, email, text, Zoom chat, or project it on a screen. Players will enter the code at instant-bingo.com or click the direct join link.
7 Start Playing
Once everyone has joined, click "Join & Play as Host" to get your own board and join the game. You can return to the setup dashboard anytime to monitor players and check boards.
For Players: Joining a Game
1 Get the Game Code
Your host will share a 6-character code (e.g., X7Y9Z2) or a direct join link.
2 Visit Instant Bingo
Go to instant-bingo.com. If you have a join link, you can click it directly.
3 Enter the Code and Your Name
Type in the 6-character game code and your display name, then click "Join Game".
4 Get Your Unique Board
You'll instantly see your personalized 5×5 bingo board. Every player gets a different randomized layout, so no two boards are the same (the center square is always "FREE" and auto-marked).
5 Mark Squares as You Play
Click or tap any square to mark it. Listen as the host calls out words, phrases, or events during the activity, and mark them on your board when they happen.
6 Call BINGO!
When you complete a row, column, or diagonal, the app will automatically detect your win and display a "BINGO!" banner. You can view the scoreboard to see who won and in what order.

- Bookmark your board: Your board has a unique URL — save it so you can return anytime (even after closing the browser).
- Use any device: Works on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops — no app required.
- Play multiple rounds: Create a new game with the same or different word list for quick rematches.
- Suitable for all ages: Perfect for classrooms, virtual meetings, birthday parties, and family gatherings.
- No prizes required: Bingo is fun as a standalone activity, but feel free to award your own external prizes if desired!

Q: Do I need to create an account?
A: No! Instant Bingo is completely account-free for casual use. Optional premium accounts (when available) unlock unlimited game creation and advanced features, but they're not required to play.
Q: How many players can join one game?
A: There's no hard limit on the number of players. Hundreds of players can join the same game code simultaneously, each receiving a unique randomized board.
Q: What if I lose my board link?
A: If you're the host, return to the setup dashboard using your original setup link. If you're a player and didn't bookmark your board URL, you'll need to rejoin using the game code (you may get a different board layout on rejoin).
Q: How long do games stay active?
A: Games are automatically removed 21 days after creation or when the host deletes them. Make sure to finish your game within that window!
Q: Can I use the same word list for multiple games?
A: Yes! You can create as many games as you want with the same words. Just visit the create page again and re-enter (or bulk paste) your word list. Or, use our pre-made templates to quickly load curated word lists.
Q: Does the app call out the words automatically?
A: No. Instant Bingo is designed for live, interactive play where the host or participants call out events, phrases, or actions as they happen (e.g., during a meeting, classroom lesson, or party). Players mark their boards manually.
Q: What happens if two people get bingo at the same time?
A: The scoreboard ranks winners by the exact timestamp of their winning move. The first player to complete a line gets 🥇 gold, the second gets 🥈 silver, and the third gets 🥉 bronze. Ties are resolved by microseconds!
Q: Is this suitable for classrooms and children?
A: Absolutely! Instant Bingo is widely used by teachers for vocabulary practice, listening exercises, and review games. Just ensure the word lists are age-appropriate. We recommend adult supervision for younger children.
